ARTIST STATEMENT

"From where the buzz comes, a Bee colony comes".

The photographic journey of the students of the Art of Photography specialisation, School of Higher Vocational Training (SAEK) of Karystos, started off from this proverb of our popular tradition.

The objective was for the students to search, to listen, to smell the scents of nature and to see the course of the Bee in the Karystian land. They had to marry our culture and local culture together with such an important insect, which defines life on our planet.

In order to reach the desired result, we read Bee-related literature and poetry, and made excursions in the Karystian nature. We wondered about the purpose of our existence and about our participation in society and derived positive values, such as respect, cooperation, teamwork, hard work, solidarity, organisation, ethics, self-sufficiency, harmony, and integrity.

The students, excited by their participation, note: "The Bee, already from the moment of her birth, knows the purpose of her existence and works tirelessly for it. Worker, Queen or Drone, everyone knows what to do. Always focused on their goals, without being influenced by any "factor". They can even give their lives for the good of the hive and the whole. It is one of nature's most perfect systems! It is worth learning from the Bees."
