SOFIA KYRIAKOU

Visual artist / Teacher


Sophia Kyriakou studied art at the Athens School of Fine Arts, at Y. Psychopedis's workshop and at the School of Fine Arts of Barcelona (Erasmus). She holds an interdepartmental Masters Diploma (Aegean University & University of Western Macedonia, Greece) titled «Applied Clinical Sociology and Art». Her research project "Fleves: The Eco Art Project" involves intervention practices related to environmental protection, using art and culture as tools.

She taught painting and scenography (2007-2011) at the School of Fine and Applied Arts, University of Western Macedonia. In recent years, she has been teaching visual arts in secondary education.

She has held nine solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in both Greece and abroad. Examples include: Campos/Field: the energy of the void, Museum of Byzantine Culture, 2023/ Asaroton, Institut Français de Grèce, 2022/ Gemine Muse, Centrale Montemartini Capitoline Museums, Rome, 2004/ 11th Biennale of young artists of Europe and the Mediterranean, Athens, 2003.

Her practice concerns interventions for the environment. She explores relevant archival references and approaches the contemplation of wandering, while conversing with random events, as well as contemporary concepts and social phenomena.

She has created the Eco Flaneur group, for visual art interventions in public space and the environment.
