3 DAYS OF CULTURE IN GHAZI

24/02/2025

It was with great pleasure that we participated in the 2nd Meeting of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Network, on February 21-23th 2025 at Technopolis, Municipality of Athens, an initiative of the Directorate of Contemporary Cultural Heritage (DINEPOK), Hellenic Ministry of Culture.

The meeting was a fantastic opportunity to meet, discuss and positively interact with representatives of cultural organisations from all over the country. We learned about the remarkable actions of the organisations and admired the cultural wealth of their communities. At the same time, we identified areas of common interest that we look forward to examining in the near future. The programme also included roundtable discussions on specific topics, as well as very interesting side events and interactive workshops.

BEELOSOPHY presented its actions "TRADITIONAL BEEKEEPING IN MOVABLE-COMB HIVES (2024)" and "SWEETEN YOUR HERITAGE: MELEKOUNI OF RHODES (2023)" and its plans and ideas for the future, with a live presentation and video excerpts. Throughout the 3-day meeting, the audience got acquainted with BEELOSOPHY through its new video (first screening), posters and brochures presented in hall D10 of Technopolis. On the last day,  BEELOSOPHY treated attendees to authentic melekouni, the traditional sweet of Rhodes and an inscribed element in the National Index of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Greece, courtesy of the Cultural Association of Koskinians "KALLITHEA".

Challenges such as cultural globalisation, decontextualisation, environmental degradation, technological intensification, weakened practice, and economic pressures threaten our intangible cultural heritage. We must protect this heritage, highlight it and transmit it alive to future generations. Congratulations to all the Ministry executives and the Coordinating Committee of the Living Heritage Network for their initiative, impeccable organisation and valuable support. We wish them success in their important work for the protection and promotion of the cultural reserve, and for the strengthening of all cultural institutions. We warmly thank the Ministry of Culture and DINEPOK for the opportunity of our participation.

With financial support and under the auspices
